Save a Life through CPR & First Aid

First Aid training allows you to deal with injuries and medical emergencies at home, work, or play. For caregivers, knowing what to do in an emergency is an essential skill.

The YMCA of Greater Toronto offers three levels of First Aid training: Basic, Emergency, and Standard.

  • Basic First Aid covers the basics, including how to contact emergency medical services, rescue breathing, how to treat choking and minor injuries
  • Emergency First Aid is for people who want a general knowledge of First Aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries. Skills include: victim assessment, rescue breathing, CPR, choking, respiratory and circulatory emergencies such as heart attack and stroke, and how to deal with external bleeding. This course includes CPR-B certification (see below for additional details) and is recognized by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
  • Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of First Aid and CPR. This course is for those who want an in-depth understanding of First Aid and covers medical/legal aspects, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns, and medical emergencies. This course includes adult, child, and infant CPR (CPR-C) certification (see below for additional details) and is recognized by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board

We also offer three levels of CPR training – A, B, and C – that are designed to meet the needs of both the public and professional rescuers, such as lifeguards. Students in all three levels will learn CPR skills including the signs, symptoms, and care of choking, non-breathing, and pulse-less victims. Our CPR courses also teach the risk factors associated with heart disease and how to prevent them or reduce their effects.

  • CPR-A (Adult): Teaches how to do CPR and choking procedures for adults
  • CPR-B (Adult & Child): Teaches parents, grandparents, babysitters, or child care workers the CPR and choking procedures for adults and children
  • CPR-C (Adult, Child & Infant): Covers all aspects of CPR skills and theory for adults, children, and infants
