The F.L.Y. (Future Leaders of the YMCA) program is a unique, fun and challenging leadership and skill development programs for teens aged 13 to 16 years. This program is ideal for those interested in pursuing future work with YMCA programs and anyone who enjoys exploring leadership in an outdoor environment.
During their stay, campers choose from a range of activities that are designed to enhance personal development and include: Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion,or Bronze Cross, first aid and CPR, tent camping, ropes challenge courses, job-skill building and outdoor recreational activities like archery, mountain biking and photography. Opportunities are available to volunteer within the YMCA upon completion.
The F.L.Y. program is divided into 3 streams:
F.L.Y. One (ages 13 -14) - 2-week introductory leadership rpogram. Highlights include achieving aquatic qualifications and a multi-night out trip.
F.L.Y. Two (ages 15) - 3-week session that includes workshops, peer-to-peer teaching and personal development programs.
C.I.T. ( Counsellor in Training) (ages 16) - 3-week program for gaining skills required of counsellors in the summer camp setting. Practical experience with younger campers is a component of this program in addition to multi-night out trip.
All participants will be contacted by a program coordinator prior to arrival to discuss their personal interests and desired outcomes of the program.
Accommodation
Campers stay in yurts that sleep ten campers and one counsellor. Campers should bring a sleeping bag, towel, toiletries and enough clothing for the entire session.
Meals
All meals are prepared on-site by our professional food service personnel. Campers will be served three nutritionally balance meals per day and an evening snack. Please request all dietary accommodations in advance. Although our kitchen is nut-aware we are unable to guarantee a completely nut-free site.
Camp Arrival and Departure
Campers arrive on Sunday between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. and parents are encouraged to meet the staff, tour the site and settle their child into their cabin or yurt. The camp program starts at 4 p.m. Staff will be ready to greet you and answer all your questions at 2 p.m. sharp!
Departure day is Friday and parents should pick up their child between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m.
