About Our Staff

YMCA Camp Pine Crest At YMCA Camp Pine Crest, we believe that the most important part of camping is the campers. That’s why we make sure to provide all our campers with the support, attention, and care they need throughout their stay with us. To ensure our campers stay safe and have fun, we hire experienced and caring counsellors who possess:

  • CPR and Standard First Aid qualifications
  • National Lifesaving Society qualifications
  • A minimum of one week of dedicated training plus ongoing training and coaching throughout the summer. Training sessions include bullying, diversity, policies and procedures, ages and stages, program instruction, outtrip leadership just to name a few
  • Dynamic individuals with experience working with children

With one of the best counsellor to camper ratios in Ontario, YMCA Camp Pine Crest has a solid staff team made up of:

  • A full time Camp Manager, a full time Assistant Camp Director, a seasonal Assistant Camp Director, a full time Outdoor Centre Director, a full time Director or Alumni and Volunteer Development and a seasonal Head of Facilities
  • Approximately 100 summer camp staff that include YMCA staff and other professionals, recent graduates and trained university, college, and high school students
  • Over 50 volunteers each summer for our camp operation and an active group of over 100 volunteers that help us open and close the site each year
  • 20 staff members for our outdoor education centre

Senior Leadership Team

  YMCA Camp Pine Crest - Andrea Balmer

Andrea Balmer is currently taking time off with the newest addition to the Balmer Family. Sloan Rowan Tosh Balmer was born in December 2007.  Andrea will be back on site this summer to continue in her third year as the Manager/Director of YMCA Camp Pine Crest.  Andrea has worked at various camps across Ontario in almost every camp role. She holds a degree in Recreation and Leisure studies and has been a senior camp Manager in the areas of residential, day camp, and outdoor education for the last nine years.
  YMCA Camp Pine Crest - Anne Coleman

Anne Coleman returns for her third year as the Acting Camp Director during Andrea's leave. She will continue in her role as the Assistant Director in the summer months. Anne has an extensive background in residential camping from YMCA Camp Kitchikewana. In the summer months, Anne will be on site directing overall programs as well as providing customer service leadership. Don’t miss a performance by Anne at campfire as she blows us away with her guitar and singing!
  YMCA Camp Pine Crest - Coel Balmer

Coel Balmer returns to Pine Crest for a second year as our full time Outdoor Centre Director. Coel works with over 1800 participants each year that visit our site in spring and fall. Much like Andrea, Coel has held almost every job at camp and brings with him experience from many different camps.  Coel will often be seen in the summer teaching campers the beautiful art of solo canoeing!
 

Alexander McIntosh has joined our full time team this year as an Assistant Director.  Alex helps us support families during the winter season with registration and customer service as well as raise money for our Send a Kid to Camp fund. This summer Alex will be overseeing our Kitchen and Sites team as he has provided a leadership role in these two areas of camp over the past two summers.  Before Pine Crest Alex worked in outdoor education as well as day and residential camp for the London YMCA.  During the summer months this jack-of-all-trades can be found on our ropes course, lifeguarding on the waterfront, helping to cook your breakfast or taking care of our water treatment plant.
