Senior Adventure Leadership

7 week Senior Adventure Leadership Trip
(previous whitewater experience required)

YMCA Camp Pine Crest Coppermine River
Age: 15 & 16
Date: June 29 - August 15, 2008

Located in North Slave and Kitikmeot regions of the North West Territories and Nunvut participants will paddle north past the tree line for over 30 days. The Coppermine flows for approx 850km from Lac de Gras north to the Coronation Gulf, an arm of the Arctic Ocean.  The group will experience alternating whitewater and flat water paddling, as well as the beauty of the wildlife, canyons and tundra landscapes.  The paddle concludes in the Inuit community of kugklukt.

This seven week program will begin with in camp preparation and a short canoe trip on the Madawaska River to practise white water skills before heading to the Coppermine River.

Upon return, participants will be able to share their experience with the camp during a special evening of “Stories from the Water” as well as cabin and program placements for hands on learning.

Staff are highly qualified instructors and trip leaders and will be in regular contact with the camp to provide regular updates for families at home.

All participants in Adventure Trips will be required to join us for our Adventure Trip Information Nights to learn more about the trip details and information about our risk management plans, instructor qualifications and trip curriculums.
