The YMCA of Greater Toronto’s Food Service Training Program received a generous donation of $20,000 from Molson’s new community investment program. Toronto City Councillor Kyle Rae and Molson’s Area Vice President, Rick Tousaw, took in a quick cooking lesson then presented a cheque to Kelvin Ramjattan, Director, YMCA Hospitality, at a special presentation on May 30, 2007.
The donation is one of five being given out simultaneously through Molson’s new community investment program, a research-based initiative that will distribute $4.5 million over the next three years, and that focuses on the creation of active and healthy communities.
The YMCA Food Service Training program offers opportunities for people who receive social assistance to participate in a unique 12-week employment program to develop the skills needed to find and maintain employment in the hospitality industry.
“Each year, the YMCA Food Service Training Program trains about 100 people in the essentials of food preparation and hospitality, and then works with them to find employment,” says Laura Palmer Korn, Senior Vice President, Operations, Employment & Community.
