She felt exhausted, out of shape, unattractive and trapped; it was time to take action. She joined a fitness group for new moms. They met weekly to exercise with their babies, go for coffee and talk about being new parents!
It was here that Erina learned about the West End YMCA and the child minding program. Child minding gives new parents time alone to workout, swim or just go in the sauna. Erina immediately became a member!
She started walking with Aiden to the YMCA, doing 30 minutes of cardio, 30 minutes of weight training, taking a nice long shower and eating lunch in the cafeteria with Aiden. Before long she began feeling healthier, started to lose weight and began making new friends with similar interests.
“I love the warm and friendly atmosphere at the YMCA and Aiden has thrived here!” Erina shares, “He has learned to swim in Little Dippers and loves to go to the bouncy castle play gym. I'm looking forward to him starting Taekwondo and hip hop when he gets older!”
YMCA staff suggest Erina take a Fitness Leadership Course. She was surprised to be considered, but after volunteering for about 6 months she obtained her personal training certification.
Erina now loves helping people get into shape. Her weight loss experience adds to her knowledge and helps her relate to other new moms. She now teaches MuscleWorks and stability ball classes. Erina plans to teach and personal train full time once Aiden starts kindergarten.
At 34 and in the best shape of her life, she credits the YMCA for helping her find success. She has a job she loves helping people change their lifestyles and finding the fun in exercise!
