New Youth Centres: A Place to Belong
North York YMCA Youth CentreYouth ages 10 to 16 now have a room of their own at the North York YMCA and the Metro Central YMCA. The North York YMCA youth centre opened on December 1, 2006 and Metro Central’s room was launched on March 1, 2007.

“These are interactive environments designed for youth, by youth,” explains Erin Beresford, Director at the Metro Central YMCA. Having a YMCA space of their own allows youth to connect more deeply with their YMCA.

The North York YMCA youth room can accommodate up to 40 young people, while the facility at the Metro-Central YMCA is more compact, welcoming about 15 youth at a time. Both centres feature arcade-style dance pads and bikes that allow exercise activated competition, along with foosball tables and workout machines. The youth centre at North York YMCA also features a climbing wall and a lounge area where youth can do homework and connect with each other.

The North York YMCA youth room is open Monday to Friday, 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on weekends for 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

At the Metro Central YMCA, the youth room is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekends from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
