Member Etiquette & Usage Guidelines

YMCA Health Fitness & RecreationMember Etiquette is a reminder that we have expectations of people’s behaviour and how participants, volunteers and staff treat each other.

Facility Access

Preschool/Child Facility Access
Children under 10 years may use YMCA programs and facilities when accompanied by an adult caregiver (16 years or older):

  • Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Weekends/Holidays, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

To ensure your child’s safety we expect that:

  • The adult caregiver of children under 10 years must remain in the facility while the children are in a program
  • When not in a program, the YMCA expects that an adult caregiver will directly supervise children under 10 years

Youth Facility Access
Youth aged 10–15 are welcome when attending an age appropriate program.

Program Area Access
Program areas will close 30 minutes prior to building closure. All members are asked to vacate the building by 10:00 p.m. weekdays and 8:00 p.m. weekends and holidays. Members will not be admitted after 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:00 p.m. on weekends.

Day Locker Access

Co-Ed/Family Locker Room
This locker room may be used by all members, guests and staff: girls, boys, men and women.  Boys 3-15 years old must use this locker room only.  Children under 10 must be accompanied by someone 16 years or older and must be supervised at all times.  Always wear a swimsuit outside the cubicles.  Use the changing cubicles to change.  Lock you locker.

Women’s General Locker Room
Female YMCA members, staff and guests 16 years of age or older are welcome to use this changeroom. Girls under 16 and boys under 3 may use the Girls Locker Room or the Family Locker Room and must be accompanied by someone 16 years or older.

Men’s General Locker Room 
Male YMCA members, staff and guests 16 years of age or older are welcome to use this changeroom. Girls under 16 and boys under 3 may use the Girls Locker Room or the Family Locker Room and must be accompanied by someone 16 years or older.

Girls' Locker Room
This locker room may be used by boys under 3, girls and women.  Girls under 10 must be accompanied by a female 16 years or older and may not be left unsupervised in any part of the locker room.

Program Area Access

Track Access
Participants 12 years of age and older may access the track.

Youth Conditioning Room Access
To use the Conditioning Room, youth 12 - 15 years of age must participate in a mandatory conditioning room equipment orientation session.  Upon completion of the orientation, youth may use the Conditioning Room at any time with their shoe tag.  Youth are not permitted to access the Free Weight Area.

Open Access Programs
These programs are for members to use on a drop-in basis. Age requirements may apply.

Pool Access
Children 0-5 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver who is at least 16 years of age. Parents or caregivers must be in the water and within arms reach of the child at all times.

Children under the age of 10, who successfully complete the facility swim test, may be admitted to the pool accompanied with an adult who remains on deck at all times.

Children under the age of 10, who cannot complete the facility swim test, must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver who is at least 16 years of age. Parents or caregivers must be in the water and within arms reach of the child at all times.

Youth ages 10-15 and adults (16+) are welcome to swim in the pool as appropriate to their swimming ability .
