As the bus passed the CN Tower and the Rogers Centre, the children started cheering. By the time they arrived at the Air Canada Centre, they could barely contain their excitement. After a tour of the Centre - including the locker rooms - the kids were treated to an all-you-can eat brunch. Some of them had three servings! Then, after a presentation from the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the kids got to watch the Maple Leafs practice.
For most of these kids, the trip alone would have been enough. But their day wasn't yet done! After the game, the YMCA took the children to Sport Check, where they had the chance to buy any shoes they wanted. Leaf players Matt Stajan (#14) and Mike Telqvist (#32) even came in to sign autographs. The children's excitement and joy were indescribable.
That evening, the kids got to watch the details of their trip (which was covered by the media) on TV. By the next day, several parents had already called the YMCA to express their gratitude for their children's new shoes, some of which cost as much as $150 a pair. Thanks to the YMCA, these children enjoyed an event of a lifetime - and one they will remember forever.
