Before You Arrive in Canada

Moving to a new country can be both exciting and challenging. If you are immigrating to Canada, you will join a prosperous and democratic society. However, you may be concerned about:

  • Finding a place to live
  • Finding a job
  • Choosing a child care program
  • Choosing a school for your children
  • Improving your English
  • Qualifying for healthcare services
  • Making new friends within your community

The good news is that Canada welcomes thousands of newcomers every year. As a result, the government of Canada supports many services to help newcomers find housing and employment.

If you are thinking of moving to Toronto, Ontario the YMCA of Greater Toronto can also help. We can help you find the government and community programs you need to transition to your new life. We offer education and training programs and can help you find a job in your trade or profession. We can even help you improve your English.

Our caring and multilingual staff can provide you with information about housing and shelter. We can help you apply for health services and citizenship. We can also answer your questions about legal and human rights issues.
