A New Person

When Joanne Edwards first joined the Durham YMCA Health, Fitness & Recreation Centre in 2001, her health was weakening. In addition to being overweight and inactive, Joanne was often tired and had difficulty leading an active and healthy lifestyle. Concerned about her health, she decided to start losing weight by walking on the treadmill, using the strengthening equipment, and participating in group fitness classes.

Soon enough, Joanne began to see her efforts pay off. Within several months, she had lost a lot of weight and some YMCA staff members suggested that she take a fitness instructor course. To her delight, she passed the course and started teaching both Aquafit and Cyclefit classes. Today, Joanne is 100 pounds thinner and now proudly wears size 12 pants with a zipper! Thanks to the YMCA, she has changed her life and looks forward to improving her health in the years to come.
