Immigrating to Canada was a big transition for me. I did not know about the culture, job market, financial system or health care in Canada. During the first week I began looking for a place to provide a variety of information.
Thankfully, someone introduced me to the YMCA Newcomer Information Centre. I was told the YMCA could help me find answers to all my questions.
When I called the YMCA, I was connected with a person who spoke my language. It was very helpful because at that time my English was not very strong and finding a person who spoke my language gave me confidence.
After learning about the services and I knew I had found the place I needed. The YMCA Newcomer Information Centre offered workshops on subjects that newcomers are desperate to know. I attended all of the workshops with great enthusiasm.
At that time, I met a YMCA Information Specialist. She was very patient and kind and provided lots of valuable information. She helped me weigh my options and choose the right path.
Now I am studying for my master’s degree at the University of Toronto and the future is looking bright. Without the help of the YMCA, I cannot imagine having the same success I have now.
Thank you to the YMCA and everyone who continues to help newcomers to Canada.
