What attracted Abdl-Razzak Hafeez to the YMCA volunteer program was the opportunity to feel connected and give something back to the Canadian community he is now part of. Arriving as an immigrant without family and friends in a new country, Abdl-Razzak found that theYMCA encouraged and provided him with much needed support, resources and guidance during his initial settlement process and helped him become self-sufficient by planning towards his job-search goals.
As a volunteer at the North East Scarborough Employment Resource Centre, Abdl-Razzak is now giving back to the community by using his skills and experience to assist clients with computers, give tours of the centre, and help with administrative duties as required. Being part of the YMCA has made Abdl-Razzak happier, more confident and feeling like he belongs: “The YMCA staff treats me with respect and I enjoy a good cup of tea and refreshment with the staff and that means a lot.”
