A Calming Influence
YMCA Volunteers: Durham Supervised Access ProgramAll volunteers are special, but the Durham Supervised Access Program volunteers are truly unique. They give time, understanding, patience and support to children and families suffering the pain of family breakdown as a result of separation or divorce.

These volunteers ensure family visits happen in a safe, neutral and positive environment. At such times, parents are often overwhelmed and children can be caught in the middle and become sad, angry or anxious.

It is into this emotional strain and vulnerability that Supervised Access Volunteers bring a calming influence. Our volunteers re-direct energy toward healthier interactions, they offer children encouragement, help families find the courage to move forward, and they wipe away tears.

Each volunteer must be caring, empathetic and resourceful. We wish to recognize the lasting commitment of our volunteers who have given back to the children and families in this program.

Thank you to Irene Snoddon, Gwen Evans, Glen Grill, Mike Ladiges, Sara Hilts, and Betty Nodder for their one-on-one support to children and visiting parents, and to Julie Clark, Andra Norberg and Margaret Jackson for their professional expertise on the Community Advisory Board.
