First-Ever Event a Huge Success“We were thrilled to receive more stories about volunteers and more rsvps to the event than we expected,” said Wendy Stratton, Manager of Volunteer Development, who organized the evening. “We had 420 volunteers, 100 staff and 150 guests at the theatre.”
Six volunteers (Pearl Hart, Richard Holloway, Misha Gaur, Ali Mirkarimi, Bob Kaye, Julie Clark and the Durham Supervised Access Program volunteers) made moving and inspiring presentations, as did YMCA CEO Scott Haldane and YMCA Board Chair Sandy McIntyre.
All who attended were treated to superb food and live music, and the YMCA volunteers received beautiful gift baskets in recognition of their service.
“Volunteers Grow Community” took place during National Volunteer Week (April 15th – 22nd), an initiative of Volunteer Canada. Look forward to next year’s event as our communities continue to grow, thanks to YMCA volunteers!
