Newcomer Information Centre's 5 Year Anniversary!

On November 23, 2006, the YMCA Newcomer Information Centre will be celebrating 5 years of operational and service success!  Since its grand opening the Newcomer Information Centre has served over 145,500 people – and over 50,000 were new! 

Over the years the Centre has evolved, expanding from its core services of information and referral and session facilitation, to include:

  • The Newcomer Network - a social network for immigrants and refugees who wish to share their experiences about their new life in Canada.
  • The Volunteer Network – since opening, hundreds of volunteers have benefited.  There are currently over 30 active volunteers who are gaining valuable work experience and knowledge. 
  •  Newcomer Volunteer Appreciation Events
  • New information and guest speaker session topics, some in Mandarin. 
  • Sessions available at LINC & ESL schools, settlement, and community agencies 
  • A Partnership with the Toronto Reference Library
  • Newcomer Information Centre services available at other YMCA sites in North York, Etobicoke, and Scarborough
  • The Newcomer Youth Leader Corps
