Harold Clarke has a passion for education and for creating peace
within his community.
Harold is the Youth Resource Director for Elevated Grounds, a non-profit youth empowerment organization that fosters the initiative to merge performing arts and social action among a diverse range of under-serviced youth. Elevated Grounds provides an artistic development platform that enables young people to explore personal, cultural and social issues through the performing arts. In the summer of 2006, Elevated Grounds presented “Youth Revolution”, an edgy musical production that used song, poetry and dance to tackle issues of violence and racism. Harold Clarke narrated the play.
Harold seeks peaceful solutions to violence, conflict, discrimination and injustice in the community by creating excellent cultural heritage tools that discourage racism and violence while promoting self-empowerment. Without any monetary resources, Harold’s creativity and intellect have enabled him to produce interactive, visual and learner-friendly presentations which have helped create more safe and peaceful communities. Finally, Harold Clarke is part of the Buzz program, a hip-hop storytelling project that tells the positive stories of youth living in Toronto Community Housing communities. He also recently became a published writer, for The Walrus magazine.
