A passionate and outspoken advocate for her community, Ann Clarke
has been a positive force of change, to empower the people of
Malvern.
Ann is deeply committed to the Malvern Community Coalition, an organization made up of more than 100 individuals and groups working in partnership to build a more empowered and peaceful community. Created, in part, to counteract negative publicity Malvern has received at times, the Malvern Community Coalition acts as a central clearinghouse for information and coordinates local action. Ann sits on the Coordinating Committee and the Educating and Organizing Committee of this vital initiative, which has been recognized by the Mayor’s Task Force on Community Safety for its outstanding work.
In both 2005 and 2006, Ann Clarke coordinated the Malvern in Motion Community Conference at Lester B. Pearson C.I. She mobilized community leaders to speak (Farley Flex, Kofi Hope), engaged youth participants, reached out to the community and followed through on her commitment to ensure that the conference succeed despite unsecured funding.
While co-chairing the Malvern in Motion conference, Ann said, “We want to empower our young people and let them know our community cares.” The conference focused on engaging, enlightening and empowering a young and diverse community and fostering recognition of their fullest capabilities, both as individuals and as a group.
In addition to serving in many capacities with the Coalition (including communication, outreach, planning and budgeting), Ann Clarke sits on the Service Canada advisory group to ensure that the needs of her community and its youth are addressed, volunteers with the Canadian Career Information Association and supports her alma mater, the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus Alumni Association, as the representative on the College of Electors.
As a community member devoted to the service of others, Ann Clarke is an inspiring example to all. With her personal mantra “knowledge is power”, Ann Clarke brings knowledge, strength and hope to both Malvern and the wider community.
