YMCA Recognized for Governance
The YMCA of Greater Toronto received special recognition for its accomplishments in the area of corporate governance at the Conference Board of Canada/Spencer Stuart 2007 National Awards in Governance Ceremony held in Toronto on Feb. 7, 2007.

The YMCA was recognized as a top contender in the Canadian non-profit sector category for setting high standards in innovative governance.  Also recognized in this category was the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie and the Canadian Association of Food Banks.

“Every day we share stories about the wonderful impact that our programs, staff and volunteers are making in the lives of many,” said YMCA President and CEO, Scott Haldane.   “It’s not every day, however, that we get to tell an equally wonderful story about how well we are governed.  This is a marvelous accomplishment for our Association and one well worth celebrating.”

Sandy McIntyre, Chair of the Board, was a featured speaker and panelist at the National Governance Conference the following day.  He spoke about the YMCA’s strategies on ‘Control, Risk and Accountability’ and of trends in the non-profit sector, to an audience of governance practitioners from the major sectors across Canada.

The Conference Board of Canada is a not-for-profit organization that builds leadership capacity for a better Canada by creating and sharing insights on economic trends, public policy and organizational performance.

Please take some time to review our Governance Guidelines.
