How can the YMCA of Greater Toronto be most effective in our mission to provide opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership for all people in a diverse city of five million people?
One of the most important ways is to recognize the importance of diversity and social inclusion. We aim to create new connections and strengthen existing ones within the YMCA and across the Greater Toronto Area.
The Diversity and Social Inclusion Task Force, created in April 2005, will implement the Diversity and Social Inclusion Plan outlined in our Strategic Plan, “Making the Connections”.
Already, the Task Force has taken major steps towards accomplishing these goals. Here are a few highlights:
“There is a broad enthusiasm for diversity within the GTA and for the YMCA’s bridging function,” said President and CEO Scott Haldane. “Our Diversity and Social Inclusion Plan will make the facilities and programs of the YMCA of Greater Toronto even more welcoming and inclusive than they are today.”
Thanks to the hard work of YMCA staff, volunteers and members, our Association is working to fulfill its promise to be a truly inclusive organization. As the Strategic Plan puts it, the YMCA of Greater Toronto can be “the network that binds many neighbourhoods into one city, one country and one world”.
