The YMCA of Greater Toronto and 300 Ontario organizations led a “Walkolution” by joining the Ontario World Record Walk on October 3, 2007. The walk aimed to break the existing Guinness World Record for the largest number of people walking one kilometre simultaneously.Walkers from Mississauga YMCA, West End YMCA and 42 Charles Street participated in the one kilometre trek. Currently Western Australia holds the record with 100,915 participants (September 2006).
We should learn in the next few months how we fared in the Guinness Book of World Records. More importantly, we were reminded that a short walk each day is not only healthy, but fun!
The World Record Walk was organized by Green Communities Canada with support from the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion.
