On October 6, 2007 the next international project began. Teams of Canadian youth from partner organizations travelled to Ghana to share their knowledge of micro business, self employment, entrepreneurship and job skills with local youth.
Doug McArthur (Durham YMCA Employment) and Carla Kendall (Toronto YMCA Self Employment) provide leadership to the groups and Beatrice Ohene-Nyako (YMCA Targeted Wage) will serve as the Ghana Liaison.
This project will also benefit from the expertise and enthusiasm of Matan Zelver (North York YMCA Newcomers), Amy Saini (YMCA Human Resources), Samantha Gass (Mississauga YMCA Employment), Nona Watts (Markham YMCA), Mohammed Yusuf (Etobicoke YMCA Employment) and Tatiana Nigay (Toronto YMCA Newcomers).
Previous projects brought Canadian youth to Benin and Ghana to deliver workshops on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. Peer-to-peer training was piloted and recognized to have broad application as a method of youth development.
Share the international experience and stay connected with the teams by visiting their blog, Ghana One: Employment and Entrepreneurship.
