Peace Week Activities

Our YMCA centres and programs will recognize Peace Week in a variety of unique ways.  YMCA World Peace Week is our time to reflect on Peace and contemplate how we can inspire peaceful changes in ourselves and our communities.

Monday, November 20, 2006

Durham Employment & Community Centre
Peace Presentation and Discussion in Youth Careers 2000 program
Discuss what peace means individually, within our communities and globally.

Etobicoke Youth Resource Centre
The Child and the Garden activity, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
This activity emphasizes the importance of planning in building a better future.

Richmond Hill Employment & Community Programs
Peace Presentation by New Market and Keswick Youth Leader Corps
Youth will participate in a Peace presentation, construct a peace collage, write peaceful postcards to our International YMCA partners and discuss peace.

Scarborough YMCA
Play Peace song during our Monday night fitness class and peace poem reading

Markham YMCA and YMCA Business Centre
“Peace Tree” Dedication Ceremony
10:00 a.m.
Celebrate peace with us as we plant a Peace Tree.

Scarborough YMCA
Peace Craft activities offered in Child Minding .
9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Etobicoke Youth Resource Centre
Creative Problem Solving, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
This activity stresses the value of sensitivity toward others’ views and the importance of having a complete understanding before coming to conclusions.

Values and Behaviours, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Demonstrates how values and beliefs you cannot see affect peoples’ behavior.

North York Employment and Newcomer Services
Peace Presentation, 11:00 a.m.
Madeleine Gilchrist, Canadian Voice of Women for Peace representative at the UN in Geneva, will give a brief presentation on her experiences.

Pick up a peaceful wish along with a sweet treat from our candy basket.
