Youth Tri at the Y

75 youth ages 12-17 years old have been training since early March for the first annual Mississauga YMCA Tri at the Y event. The dedicated staff and volunteer team at the Mississauga YMCA have been coaching the kids on swimming, biking and running in preparation for the race. This exciting event was developed to connect youth of all physical abilities in a fun and supportive environment. Anyone can participate, and youth in the Y-knot Abilities Program are training and competing side by side with kids who are part of their school track and swim teams.

Training includes lessons on proper technique, drills, stretches, transitions between race events, nutrition and, of course, safety. The YMCA is also offering participants sessions with guest speakers, resource materials on the Kids of Steel summer triathlon events, and financial support towards memberships, bikes and entry fees for the event. Youth will participate in a relay featuring:

• 300 metre swim
• 3 kilometre bike ride
• 10 kilometre run

We’d love to see you on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the Mississauga YMCA to support our youth as they strive to get active, be healthy and have fun.

This event aims to raise awareness of the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign and demonstrates how YMCA programs blend the benefits of physical activity, community involvement and personal giving to help build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.
