YMCA of Beirut-Lebanon

The YMCA of Greater Toronto partnered with the YMCA of Beirut, Lebanon in 1984.

YMCA Beirut-Lebanon Programs & Services
Education Programs:
  • Education for Democracy is a program offered to war-affected children and youth from various religious groups and regions across Lebanon
  • International Management Training offers seminars for non-governmental organizations and businesses
  • Child/youth Worker Training is offered as a practicum for university students and workers in social services

Integrate Rural Development Program: This program is divided into four major components: agricultural income generation for women, community environmental management, civic participation and rural infrastructure rehabilitation.

Medical Assistance Program: Through this program community-based agencies partner with the YMCA assisting 26,000 patients suffering form chronic diseases in clinics countrywide.

Vocation Training: Food preparation training, preservation and marketing for women, building trades and management.

Partnership Activities
All partnerships involve on-going communication and sharing of resources.

2001: A youth volunteer from Lebanon spent nine weeks in Mississauga in day camps, childcare and at Camp PineCrest as part of the International Youth Participation Program.

2000: The YMCA of Beirut-Lebanon hosted a study visit for staff and volunteers from YMCAs in Liberia, Lebanon and Canada to address strategies for civic engagement for youth and children in difficult times.

2000: The YMCA of Lebanon hosted an intern from Toronto for three months who tool part in an exchange focused on youth engagement models.

1998: The YMCA of Greater Toronto hosted delegates from the YMCA of Beirut-Lebanon at the YMCA International Conference in Toronto

1996: The YMCA of Beirut-Lebanon hosted a visit by a group of staff and volunteers from the Western Region to share program information, review programs and discuss future partnership activities.

International Programs are supported by the Government of Canada through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
