Our Position on Public Policy

At the YMCA of Greater Toronto, we aim to improve the communities where we live and work by maintaining a strong commitment to public policy discussion and investment. In our 2005-2010 Strategic Plan, we committed to contributing to public policy development in five key program areas:

  • Healthy, active living
  • Child, youth and family development
  • Youth employment
  • Newcomer integration
  • Youth at Risk

In doing so, we at the YMCA of Greater Toronto stay true to the following ideals:

  • We remain non-partisan in everything we do
  • We ensure our actions always respect our community’s need for diversity of opinion
  • We engage the public policy process to improve the lives of all Ontarians
  • We participate in informed, evidence-based discussions with all levels of government
  • We collaborate and partner with our community and community associations throughout our city, our province, and our country to understand critical issues, plan responses, take action, and build our members’ leadership skills
  • We continue to actively participate in more than 50 city-wide and provincial networks and coalitions related to our core services
  • We lead where our experience is valued and where we believe there is a need for change
