More than 175 young people attended the YMCA International Youth Day Showcase: Celebrating Talent, Leadership & Diversity at Metro Central on Tuesday, August 12, 2008. International Youth Day gives the world an opportunity to recognize the potential of youth, to celebrate their achievements, and plan for better ways to engage young people to successfully take action in their communities.

The event included a DJ, fashion show, prizes and singing and dancing acts with diverse international styles. Guests also enjoyed a community fair featuring souvenirs, art and food from around the world.

Our celebration of International Youth Day further demonstrates how, as an Association, we are delivering on our commitment to connect more with youth and deepening such connections.  As our strategic plan states: “We will create a positive enriching environment for children and youth…we will reach out and listen to young people…we will create opportunities for young people to learn as they lead.”
