YMCA Youth Member Success Stories
Growing up is about much more than just getting older. It’s about building your skills and self-esteem. It’s about relying on yourself and on others. Most of all, it’s about learning to realize your fullest potential. Over the years, so many young members of the YMCA have turned to us for help in each of these areas. Here are some stories that highlight the success we can enjoy when we work together:

Seizing Opportunities
My success story actually begins prior to my involvement with the YMCA. I had hit a low point in my life. I had little to no money, no job and my personal life was in unrest. My girlfriend had recently left me and my brother was in the hospital with a serious illness.

It was in this time I reflected on myself and decide on my life direction. I decided that finding a new job would be my new goal. It was, after all, the most urgent priority. > read more

Making a Difference for Youth
Raymond King is a man who believes in young people. Ray is owner of Metric Size Precision and has been an employer of Durham YMCA Employment and Community Programs for over two years. > read more
Through Thick and Thin
When Chelsea first came to the Newmarket YMCA Employment Centre, she was a part-time employee in a “dead end” retail job. Although she knew she wanted more out of life, she wasn’t sure how to structure a long-term career. > read more

A Place to Belong
Sometimes, living with a disability can mean being told you can’t do something. For 16-year-old Chantelle, it meant being told she couldn’t play on the basketball team at school. > read more
Back On-Track
In the course of a year, Afia went from living in a group home and being in trouble with the law to receiving a Values Award from the YMCA Academy. > read more
Friends in Newfoundland
On the last week of May, twelve young high school students from Cornerbrook on the West Coast of Newfoundland stepped off the plane into Toronto. They were on an exchange with our YMCA Academy.  > read more
